(the robustness of a living language tool is based upon goal-oriented tailoring to suit the needs of the speaking community. )

Human beings possess a seemingly unique mental faculty called consciousness. This involves a collective ability to reflect on our surroundings as well as refer to ourselves as a distinct part of the environmental realm. Consciousness is the result of an increasingly complex self-awareness process and involves a speculative meditation within one’s own mind. Language allows us to share the nature of these contemplations in an externalized informational realm.

Language and consciousness can be imagined as symbiotic partners that interact within the broader context of culture. This relationship is not one of “cause and effect” but one of “autocatalytic reciprocation”. This is to say that while language does not control consciousness, (or vice versa), the development or retardation of one is related symbiotically to that of the other. Given their intimate relationship in our human evolutionary history, it is impossible to imagine one without the other.

If thought and speech are the result of a distinct reciprocal evolution, they have reached their contemporary sophistication from much simpler origins. We can also assume that our current level of complexity is but a temporary station on an evolutionary journey into the future. This project should be considered an experimental apparatus whereby a novel culture is progressively engineered as we investigate, evaluate, and modify our thought and language systems according to a new paradigm.
